Monument of Dr. Jose Rizal at Plaza Rizal

It is believed that the monument of Rizal in Majayjay was built on the year 1904, eight years after his execution in Bagumbayan, Manila (now Rizal / Luneta Park) on December 30, 1896. Its construction was managed by a Mason at the time of Mr. Dorotheo Roqueza. There was no record on who carved the statue of Rizal. The construction of the monument was done under the auspices of Municipal President (Mayor) Don Antonio Escobar (1904-1905). Rizal’s death day can be seen on the side of its monument stairs.
